Gentle Folk - Scary Gully Pinot Noir
A pinot noir absolutely worth trying from cool-climate Adelaide Hills. This is Scary Gully, their single-vineyard bottling of pinot noir vines, which were planted back in 1984. Pretty ruby colour, with enjoyable signature pinot notes of cherries, strawberries, spice, and a bit of Black Beauty plums, this is a wine to share with friends. 20% new French oak and a bit of whole-bunch during fermentation, this is winemaking on trend, presenting lots of juicy notes and just enough tannins for structure.
Located in Basket Range, in the Adelaide Hills, Gareth and Rainbo Belton are producers to watch. Their organically farmed vineyards (with some biodynamic practices) and minimal interventionist winemaking showcase the quality of their fruit and the respect for the land on which they produce these cool-climate, "cool" wines.
